Acrylics, photography collage, glue on paper

I wondered if I can use the symbolic language of tree branches to re-create the iconic image. I used my photography of branches that I have been collecting for years. The emptiness of the sky and chaos of branches created a suitable metaphor for the image of a celebrity: complicated but ultimately empty, a slight of hands.

This is my take on a pastoral theme. It has a patchwork nature, which is how I believe memory operates. The carved figurines, flowers, sky, tree branches are covered with a thick layer of glue which gives it a certain “amber” quality. Like an ant stuck in amber, my idyllic world is a message from the past.
